NVIDIA made history on Wednesday by becoming the first company to exceed a market capitalization of $5 trillion, driven by a surge in demand for artificial intelligence technologies.
The milestone marks another leap for the U.S.-based chipmaker, whose stock has risen 50% this year after surpassing the $4 trillion mark for the first time in July.
Once known mainly for its graphics processing chips, NVIDIA has rapidly transformed into a global leader in artificial intelligence hardware and software. Since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, the company’s shares have increased more than twelvefold, helping push the S&P 500 index to record highs.
