Hollywood star and humanitarian advocate Angelina Jolie visited the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with Gaza on Friday to document the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe and support ongoing relief efforts for Palestinians in the enclave.
Jolie, a former UNHCR Special Envoy, arrived with a U.S. delegation and said she was “honored” to meet volunteers from non-governmental organizations stationed near the crossing. She also spoke with drivers of humanitarian aid trucks, with a Red Crescent volunteer telling her that “hundreds of trucks are waiting” to enter Gaza.
During her visit, Jolie toured Al-Arish General Hospital, where she met wounded and injured Palestinians and checked on their medical conditions. She said the stories she heard were beyond description, praising the medical teams in Al-Arish and describing their work as heroic.
U.S. State Department spokesperson Arwa Jayeri explained that the visit aims to assess needs on the ground and ensure aid matches the scale of the disaster, particularly with winter approaching.
