Tunisian Doctor Confirms Rise in Seasonal Flu Cases

Dr. Jalila Ben Khalil confirmed a recent increase in seasonal flu cases ahead of the end-of-year period, stressing that the situation is not related to a new COVID-19 variant.

Speaking to Jawhara FM radio, she explained that the recorded cases are linked to the H3N2 virus variant, known as “K.” Symptoms include a sudden high fever exceeding 39°C, fatigue, and severe headaches, muscle, and joint pain. Other symptoms may include nausea and abdominal pain, lasting between five days and one week.

Dr. Ben Khalil advised against rushing to take antibiotics, recommending rest, drinking plenty of water, and using standard fever-reducing medications after consulting a doctor. She also urged people to follow preventive measures such as physical distancing, wearing masks, handwashing, and ventilating closed spaces.

She emphasized the importance of flu vaccination, especially for pregnant women, people over 65, and those under 65 with chronic illnesses or severe obesity.
