Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, met on March 30, 2026, with Nabil Assaf on the occasion of his appointment as head of the regional office of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Tunisia.

During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between Tunisia and the FAO to support food security. He underlined the long-standing relationship between Tunisia and the organization, noting the country’s active participation in its programs since the 1960s. He also praised the FAO’s continued role in advancing food security and the Sustainable Development Goals across the Arab, African, and Mediterranean regions.

The Minister reaffirmed Tunisia’s support for the FAO’s efforts to address global challenges such as climate change, health crises, armed conflicts, and water scarcity, all of which threaten food security. He also stressed the need to integrate modern technologies and expand training and capacity-building initiatives.

For his part, the FAO official expressed his pride in assuming his duties in Tunisia and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the country’s efforts toward sustainable development and food security. He also emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, as well as stronger research and innovation, to effectively respond to evolving global challenges.
