Tunisia to Lead the « 5+5 Defense » Initiative in 2025

Tunisia will preside over the « 5+5 Defense » Initiative in 2025, following the 20th meeting held in Madrid on December 12, 2024.

The Tunisian Minister of National Defense, Khaled Souhaili, emphasized Tunisia’s commitment to enhancing regional security, tackling challenges like irregular migration and cybersecurity, and fostering mutual cooperation.

Souhaili proposed hosting a conference in Tunisia to mark the initiative’s 20th anniversary and chart its future direction. He also held talks with Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian defense officials to strengthen military collaboration and joint projects.

Tunisia aims to build on the initiative’s success and promote stability in the Western Mediterranean.
