Algeria Closes Airspace to Mali Amid Rising Border Disputes

Algeria has announced the closure of its airspace to all flights to and from Mali, citing what it described as « repeated violations » of its airspace by Malian aircraft.

In an official statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Defense on Monday, the government confirmed that the decision would take immediate effect and apply to all types of air navigation without exception. The move is intended to « protect national sovereignty and ensure the safety of Algerian airspace. »

The move comes amid rising border tensions and Algeria’s growing concern over Mali’s military cooperation with regional actors not welcomed by Algiers.
