Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has urged that Israel be excluded from international cultural events, including the Eurovision Song Contest, in response to its military campaign in Gaza.
Speaking at a conference in Madrid on Monday, Sánchez criticized what he called double standards in cultural platforms, comparing the situation to Russia’s ban from international competitions following its invasion of Ukraine.
He also called on artists to defend democratic values and condemned silence in the cultural sector amid ongoing conflict. Israel has not yet responded to the remarks.
