France to Officially Recognize Independent State of Palestine

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that France will officially recognize an independent State of Palestine, reaffirming his country’s historic commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

In a statement today, President Macron announced that France will recognize the State of Palestine, with a formal declaration set for the UN General Assembly in September. He stressed the urgent need to end the war in Gaza, protect civilians, and deliver humanitarian aid.

Macron also called for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a secure, recognized Palestinian state as essential to lasting peace in the region.
