Tunisian President Receives Italian Prime Minister Meloni at Carthage Palace

On Thursday, July 31, Tunisian President Kais Saied welcomed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Carthage Palace. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as transport, health, agriculture, and energy.

A major topic of discussion was irregular migration. President Saied called for coordinated efforts to organize voluntary return flights for undocumented migrants in Tunisia and to dismantle the criminal networks exploiting them. He stressed that Tunisia cannot continue to shoulder the burden alone and reaffirmed the country’s refusal to serve as a transit or settlement zone.

The meeting also addressed regional issues, including the worsening humanitarian situation in Palestine. President Saied strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities committed by Israeli forces and reiterated Tunisia’s firm support for the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
