Tunisia, EU Discuss Energy Transition and Renewable Projects

On August 21, 2025, Tunisia’s Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane, met with EU Ambassador Giuseppe Peronne to discuss strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.

Talks focused on EU support for Tunisia’s national energy strategy, particularly infrastructure development and the implementation of the 2024 memorandum of understanding on renewable energy investment and strategic energy supply.

Discussions also highlighted the ELMED electricity interconnection project between Tunisia and Italy, expected to boost energy security, along with future initiatives such as electricity storage projects to enhance grid stability.
