The White House announced that President Donald Trump has signed an executive order stating that any armed attack on Qatar’s territory, sovereignty, or vital infrastructure will be considered a threat to the security of the United States.
The order, dated September 29, was issued less than a month after an Israeli strike in Doha targeted Hamas leaders, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to apologize to Qatar.
According to the order, the U.S. will take “all necessary measures”—diplomatic, economic, and if required, military—to defend both U.S. and Qatari interests. It also instructs U.S. defense, foreign affairs, and intelligence officials to coordinate with Qatar on joint emergency response plans.
