Syria Appoints Palestinian as Oil Minister in New Government

Ahmed Al-Sharaa, head of Syria’s new administration, announced on Thursday the appointment of Ghiyath Diab, a Palestinian and oil expert, as Minister of Oil — marking the first time in Syria’s history that a Palestinian has held this position.

Diab becomes the 14th minister in the new Syrian government, which is grappling with a severe shortage of oil resources. His appointment fills a vacancy that had remained unoccupied for over a month.
