Fire Destroys Around 300 Palm Trees in Old Tozeur Oasis

A fire broke out Monday evening in the old oasis of Tozeur, destroying around 300 palm trees and burning 2.5 hectares of dry vegetation. The affected area, a neglected farm plot, is part of the “Al-Wassat” Agricultural Development Group.

Local farmers’ union head Habib Touzri confirmed the fire was brought under control and stressed ongoing efforts to raise awareness and prevent summer fires. Negligent burning and high temperatures are the main causes of such blazes. Farmers are urged to avoid waste burning unless water is readily available.
