On June 12, 2025, Tunisia and China signed a scientific and technological cooperation agreement to strengthen bilateral ties in research and innovation. The agreement was signed by Tunisia’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mondher BelAïd, and China’s Minister of Science and Technology, Yin Hejun.
The agreement aims to boost joint research, establish shared scientific platforms such as labs and research centers, and promote the exchange of scientists and experts. It also includes cooperation in hosting scientific events, sharing research documents, and encouraging technology transfer and innovation.
Priority areas for collaboration include biotechnology, artificial intelligence, marine sciences, and energy transition. The deal also supports Tunisia’s strategic role as a regional hub for scientific cooperation with Africa, under China’s Belt and Road innovation initiative.
