South Africa Calls for More Countries to Recognize the State of Palestine

South Africa has urged the international community to recognize the State of Palestine and intensify pressure on Israel to stop what it describes as acts of genocide in Gaza.

Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola said growing discontent among Israel’s allies over the crisis in Gaza is a sign the world is moving closer to ending the violence.

South Africa has been a vocal opponent of Israel’s war on Gaza and filed a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice in December 2023.
