A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Afghanistan on Sunday, killing over 800 people and injuring thousands.
The quake hit Kunar province, causing more than 800 deaths and over 2,500 injuries. In neighboring Nangarhar province, 12 people were killed and 255 injured.
With a shallow epicenter at just eight kilometers deep, the tremor caused severe damage in the mountainous region. Rescue operations are ongoing, and officials warn that the death toll may rise.
