Reports of new mass killings in Sudan’s El-Fasher have revived fears of another Darfur-style atrocity. The violence reportedly restarted on Monday, when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized control of the city after an 18-month siege.
Witnesses described executions and ethnic attacks against civilians, while videos shared by RSF fighters appeared to show abuses and celebrations over dead bodies.
RSF leader Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo admitted to “violations” in El-Fasher but denied systematic killings. The renewed bloodshed marks one of the darkest chapters yet in Sudan’s civil war, which has raged since April 2023.
