Morocco’s state television announced on Monday that the death toll from severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the Atlantic coastal province of Safi has risen to 37.
Local authorities reported that 14 people are currently receiving medical treatment, including two in intensive care. Search, rescue, and relief operations are ongoing, as authorities continue to provide assistance to affected residents. Citizens have been urged to remain highly vigilant, follow safety measures, and exercise extreme caution amid the country’s sharp climate fluctuations.
Safi, located about 300 kilometers south of the capital Rabat, was hit by violent thunderstorms that triggered exceptional flash floods within the space of one hour. Earlier reports indicated that 32 people were injured and taken to the city’s hospital, most of whom were later discharged after receiving treatment.
