IMF Ready to Support Syria after Sanctions are lifted

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced on Thursday its readiness to provide technical support to Syria, following the recent lifting of U.S. and EU sanctions.

Julie Kozack, Director of the IMF’s Communications Department, stated, “Our staff is preparing to support international efforts to help Syria rehabilitate its economy when conditions permit.”

Syria’s economy has been severely damaged by a 14-year war that ended last December with the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad’s government.

“Syria will need substantial assistance to rebuild its economic institutions,” Kozack added. “We stand ready to offer targeted and priority technical advice and support in our areas of expertise.”
