Tunisia Deepens Regional Cooperation at COMESA Summit in Nairobi

October 8, 2025 – Nairobi – Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti led Tunisia’s delegation at the 20th Session of the COMESA Council of Ministers and the 24th Summit of Heads of State and Government, reaffirming Tunisia’s commitment to African economic integration and sustainable development.

In his speech, Minister Nafti emphasized Tunisia’s belief in the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to promote peace, security, and growth across Africa. He also highlighted the need for close coordination between COMESA, the United Nations, and the African Union to prevent and manage crises through dialogue and diplomacy.

On the sidelines of the summit, Nafti held bilateral meetings with several counterparts, including the Kenyan Prime Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, the Foreign Ministers of Burundi and Mauritius, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Libya, and the Secretary-General of COMESA.

Talks focused on expanding partnerships in trade, energy, health, education, and infrastructure, as well as on activating cooperation mechanisms such as joint commissions and political consultations. Tunisia and Kenya agreed to further strengthen their bilateral relations, with Nafti’s upcoming visit to Nairobi expected to mark a new phase of cooperation through the signing of several agreements.

Meetings with Burundi and Mauritius explored development opportunities and highlighted Tunisia’s contribution to African infrastructure projects. Discussions with Libya and the COMESA Secretary-General underscored the strategic importance of developing the Ras Jdir border crossing, a project seen as key to enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration among COMESA member states.
