Oslo, October 10, 2025 — The Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado for her unwavering efforts to promote democratic rights and lead a peaceful struggle toward restoring democracy in Venezuela.
The Committee praised Machado as “a brave and committed champion of peace” who has united a divided opposition and inspired millions through her commitment to nonviolent resistance. For over two decades, she has defended free and fair elections, judicial independence, and human rights — often at great personal risk.
