The World Bank has estimated the cost of rebuilding Syria at around $216 billion after more than thirteen years of conflict.
The World Bank’s report “Damage Assessment and Reconstruction in Syria 2011–2024” estimates that about one-third of Syria’s pre-war capital has been destroyed, with total damage reaching $108 billion. Infrastructure was hit hardest, followed by housing and public buildings, with Aleppo, Rural Damascus, and Homs suffering the most.
Reconstruction costs are estimated between $140 billion and $345 billion, averaging $216 billion. The Bank said it stands ready to support Syria’s recovery efforts, noting that the estimated cost equals nearly ten times the country’s projected 2024 GDP.
