Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt Reaffirm Support for UN-Led Political Solution in Libya

Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti took part on Thursday in Algiers in a meeting of the Tripartite Consultation Mechanism on Libya, alongside his Algerian and Egyptian counterparts, Ahmed Attaf and Badr Abdelatty.

The discussions focused on reviving the political process in Libya and supporting a UN-led roadmap to resolve the country’s long-standing crisis. Minister Nafti reiterated Tunisia’s firm stance in favor of an inclusive Libyan-Libyan dialogue that ensures unity, stability, and development, free from external interference.

In a joint communiqué, the three ministers underscored the importance of Libyan ownership of the peace process and called on all Libyan parties to engage constructively toward holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. They also emphasized the need for national reconciliation and the withdrawal of all foreign fighters from Libya.

The ministers reaffirmed their rejection of foreign interference, highlighting that stability in Libya is key to regional security. They agreed to continue coordination among their countries and with the United Nations, the Arab League, and the African Union.

The meeting concluded with Tunisia’s invitation to host the next round of the Tripartite Mechanism in Tunis early next year.
