Tunisia has signed a $430 million financing agreement with the World Bank to support the Energy Reliability, Efficiency, and Governance Improvement Program (TEREG). The five-year initiative includes $30 million in concessional funding and aims to modernize Tunisia’s energy sector.
The program will help strengthen the performance of the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG), expand renewable energy projects, and improve governance to ensure reliable and affordable electricity for households and businesses.
World Bank Country Manager Alexandre Arrobbio said the project will boost Tunisia’s clean energy development, create new economic opportunities, and enhance long-term energy security.
By 2028, the program is expected to attract $2.8 billion in private investment, add 2.8 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, create over 30,000 jobs, and reduce electricity costs and subsidies significantly.
