World Bank Reaffirms Support for Tunisia’s Water Security

The World Bank has reiterated its commitment to supporting Tunisia in water management and water security through project financing and technical expertise. The pledge was made by Mascaram Behane, the Bank’s Regional Director for Sustainable Development in MENA, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, during a meeting on Wednesday with Economy and Planning Minister Samir Abdelhafidh.

Behane expressed readiness to intensify coordination with Tunisian institutions to develop medium- and long-term action plans to help the country address growing challenges.

Minister Abdelhafidh noted that water security, improved governance, and efficiency in the water sector are top national priorities, especially as climate change worsens. He highlighted ongoing strategic efforts to strengthen resources, upgrade distribution networks, and expand wastewater recycling programs.

The meeting also reviewed opportunities to enhance cooperation between Tunisia and the World Bank, in the presence of the Bank’s country manager Alexandre Arrobbio and accompanying officials.
