Japan’s Meteorological Agency announced that a strong earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale struck near Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning.
The alert covers the northeastern coastline, where tsunami waves could reach heights of up to three meters, according to early assessments.
The quake’s epicenter was located about 50 kilometers offshore, east of Aomori Prefecture.
Seismologists urged residents in coastal areas to evacuate immediately as a precaution. So far, no damage or casualties have been reported.
