Doha, Washington Step Up Efforts Toward Second Phase of Gaza Agreement

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced on Wednesday that he has agreed with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to intensify efforts to move to the second phase of the Gaza agreement, confirming that a mediators’ meeting will be held soon.

Speaking during a visit to Washington, Sheikh Mohammed said preparations are underway with the U.S. side for a meeting on Friday to outline the transition to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which came into effect on October 10.

He stressed the urgent need to advance to the next phase of the agreement and to establish a Palestinian civil administration in Gaza as soon as possible. He also emphasized that the international stabilization force foreseen by a UN Security Council resolution should protect the ceasefire agreement, not any single party.

The Qatari prime minister reaffirmed Doha’s commitment to working with Washington to safeguard the agreement, warning that repeated ceasefire violations undermine mediation efforts.
