At least four people have died in Tunisia as the heaviest rainfall since 1950 triggered severe flooding, the state news agency TAP reported. The fatalities occurred in Moknine, Monastir province, where rainfall reached 230 mm between Monday evening and Tuesday.
Civil defense authorities conducted more than 100 interventions, evacuating 15 people and assisting around 300 others stranded by rising waters. Flooded roads and overflowing rivers created hazardous conditions across several regions.
The National Institute of Meteorology issued a red alert for Grand Tunis, Nabeul, and Monastir provinces. Schools in more than eight governorates were closed, and major roads were suspended. Authorities urged residents to stay vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas.
President Kais Saied has ordered the army to support rescue operations nationwide. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to continue.
