Morocco is facing severe flooding in its northwestern regions following days of torrential rainfall, forcing authorities to evacuate more than 140,000 residents from flood-prone areas as of February 5, 2026.
The floods, triggered by heavy rains and rising river levels due to dam releases, have mainly affected provinces including Larache and Ksar El Kebir. Emergency services, supported by security forces, have been mobilized to assist displaced families, while schools and public facilities in affected areas have been temporarily closed.
The Interior Ministry urged residents to comply with safety instructions as weather warnings remain in place. Temporary shelters have been set up, and efforts are ongoing to protect infrastructure and agricultural land.
The extreme weather comes after years of drought, highlighting growing climate challenges facing the country, as authorities continue to monitor the situation and coordinate relief operations.
