Tunisia and Egypt Discuss Ways to Strengthen Military Cooperation

Tunisia and Egypt held talks in Cairo on Monday to explore ways to enhance and diversify their military cooperation. The meeting brought together Tunisian Minister of National Defense Khaled Suhili and Egypt’s Minister of Defense and Military Production, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Abdel Maged Saqr, in the presence of senior military delegations from both countries.

The talks took place on the occasion of the closing of the 18th session of the Tunisian-Egyptian Joint Military Committee. Sehili praised the deep-rooted fraternal relations and historical ties between the two countries, stressing that current regional and global geopolitical developments call for closer coordination, particularly in the military field, to safeguard shared interests and national security.

The Tunisian minister underlined the importance of elevating the joint committee’s work to the ministerial level, viewing it as a sign of both countries’ commitment to advancing military cooperation toward a strategic partnership. Discussions also covered expanding cooperation into new areas, including scientific research, military health, defense manufacturing, technology transfer, and the exchange of expertise and training.

For his part, Abdel Maged Saqr welcomed the successful outcome of the committee’s 18th session, expressing satisfaction with the depth of discussions and reaffirming Egypt’s desire to strengthen military cooperation with Tunisia based on mutual interests.
