Tripoli, March 16, 2026 – Libya announced a new offshore gas discovery in the Mediterranean with estimated reserves of around one trillion cubic feet, expected to boost supplies for the domestic market and exports to Italy.
The National Oil Corporation said the discovery followed drilling operations carried out by Italy’s Eni company in the “Bahr Essalam 2” and “Bahr Essalam 3” wells.
Authorities stated that an urgent development plan is underway to connect the two wells to the Bahr Essalam offshore platform, located about 16 km from the discovery site. The new fields are expected to produce around 130 million cubic feet of gas per day, helping meet local demand and support international supply.
