Japan Grants Funding for 130 MW Solar Project in Gabes

The Embassy of Japan in Tunisia announced that a 130-megawatt photovoltaic energy project in Gabes was selected in February 2026 to benefit from a grant provided by the Japanese government under the Carbon Credit Exchange Mechanism (MCC).

The mechanism aims to encourage the launch of projects that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing financial support of up to 2 billion yen (approximately 37 million Tunisian dinars).

The embassy explained that the project will be carried out by the Japanese company Marubeni in partnership with a French firm. It will be the fourth project implemented in Tunisia under the MCC framework, following two photovoltaic energy projects previously launched in Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur.
