Lebanon Declares Iranian Ambassador Persona Non Grata

In an official statement, Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had withdrawn its approval for the appointment of Iranian ambassador Mohammad Reza Sheibani, declaring him persona non grata. The Lebanese government has requested that Sheibani leave the country no later than Sunday, March 29, 2026.

The ministry also confirmed that Lebanon’s ambassador to Tehran, Ahmad Sweidan, has been recalled for consultations. The move comes in response to what Lebanon described as violations by Iran of diplomatic norms and established principles governing relations between the two countries.
