The Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, met with the Belgian Ambassador to Tunisia, François Dumont, on Monday, December 9, to explore ways to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
Discussions focused on advancing partnerships in industry, renewable energy, and mining. The minister emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in these fields, particularly by leveraging Belgium’s expertise in renewable energy.
Ambassador Dumont reiterated Belgium’s commitment to supporting major development projects in Tunisia, including the establishment of new renewable energy power plants and expanding cooperation in the phosphate sector. He also highlighted plans to boost regional development as part of the joint Tunisia-Wallonia-Brussels Committee’s 2025-2029 work program.
Belgium is Tunisia’s sixth-largest economic and trade partner, with approximately 200 Belgian companies operating in Tunisia, primarily in the textile and apparel sectors, employing around 22,000 people.
