Kuwait Revokes Over 3,000 Citizenship Cases

Kuwait’s Supreme Committee for Citizenship announced the revocation, loss, and withdrawal of 3,701 citizenships, including 94 under Article 1, 3,601 under Article 8, five for dual nationality, and one other case, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

This move is part of a nationwide campaign to reorganize citizenship laws. The campaign, which began four months ago, follows amendments to the nationality law in September that nullified certain cases of citizenship by dependency.

The government aims to address « fraudulent and dual nationality cases, » as Kuwaiti law prohibits retaining an original nationality alongside Kuwaiti citizenship. Local media report the campaign seeks to preserve national identity, stability, and social cohesion.
