Italy: Naples on Alert, Schools Closed Due to Earthquakes

Naples, Italy, was hit by a series of earthquakes on Sunday, the strongest measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

The tremors occurred in the highly active Phlegraean Fields, just kilometers from the city center.

While no damage or injuries were reported, authorities closed schools in Pozzuoli as a precaution. The region has recently seen increased seismic activity, with the Phlegraean Fields recognized as Europe’s largest active supervolcano.
