Olmert, Former Israeli PM, Reveals Palestinian State Map in Two-State Proposal

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert unveiled the map he presented in 2008 to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as part of his two-state solution proposal. The plan suggested returning to pre-1967 borders, with Israel retaining key settlement blocs like Gush Etzion, Ma’ale Adumim, and Ariel. In exchange, Israel would cede some land for a Palestinian state.

Olmert also proposed a tunnel to link Gaza and the West Bank, dividing Jerusalem and placing some areas under Israeli control and others under Palestinian authority. He suggested relinquishing Israeli sovereignty over the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Old City, placing the “Holy Basin” under an international trusteeship with Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, the U.S., and Saudi Arabia.

However, Palestinian leaders dismissed the offer, as Olmert was embroiled in a corruption scandal and near resignation, according to former Palestinian presidential chief of staff Rafiq Husseini.
