Tunisia Signs Agreements for 500 MW Solar Energy Projects

On March 24, 2025, Tunisia signed agreements for four solar photovoltaic projects totaling 500 MW in Sidi Bouzid (300 MW), Gafsa (100 MW), and Gabes (100 MW). The ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy Fatma Thabet Chiboub, Minister of State Properties and Land Affairs Wajdi Hdhili, and other Tunisian officials.

Ambassadors from Japan, France, Germany, Norway, and the United Kingdom were also present, alongside executives from major energy companies such as « Qair, » « Voltalia, » « Scatec, » and « Aeolus. »

These projects, part of Tunisia’s 1,700 MW renewable energy plan, aim to enhance energy infrastructure, support sustainability, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Expected to be operational by 2027, they will generate 1,100 GWh annually, saving $125 million in natural gas costs and cutting electricity expenses by 200 million dinars per year.
