Tunisian authorities are continuing the evacuation of informal camps housing Sub-Saharan African migrants in Al-Amra and Jebeniana, Sfax. According to National Guard spokesperson Houssem Eddine Jebabli, many migrants have requested voluntary return to their home countries after failing to reach Europe.
The operation, which began Thursday, includes support from the Red Crescent, health officials, and civil protection services, with a focus on humanitarian assistance, especially for pregnant women and children. The largest camp, with around 4,000 people, was peacefully dismantled.
Jebabli confirmed that bladed weapons were seized and some individuals detained for alleged links to foreign groups. President Kais Saied is personally following the situation, ensuring coordination with migration organizations to facilitate voluntary returns.
