Libya Expels International NGOs Over Alleged Migrant Resettlement

Libya’s Security Agency announced on April 2 the expulsion of ten international NGOs, accusing them of hostile activities aimed at resettling irregular Sub-Saharan migrants in Libya through money laundering.

The banned organizations include the International Relief Organization, Norwegian Refugee Council, Terre des Hommes (Italy), International Medical Corps, Danish Refugee Council, Médecins Sans Frontières (France), CARE (Germany), INTERSOS, ACTED, and Cesvi (Italy).

In protest, 17 European ambassadors and the UN representative in Libya condemned what they called a « crackdown » on humanitarian NGOs, accusing Libyan authorities of harassment, forced suspensions, and pressuring staff to resign.
