France Orders Expulsion of 12 Algerian Diplomats Following Algiers’ Move

The French presidency announced on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the expulsion of 12 Algerian diplomats in response to a similar move by Algeria. France also recalled its ambassador from Algiers for consultations, signaling rising tensions.

Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrault said on platform « X » that Algeria had chosen escalation, calling France’s response justified. He stressed that dialogue remains possible, but not on unilateral terms.
