DR Congo and Liberia Elected to UN Security Council

On June 4, 2025, the UN General Assembly elected the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for a two-year term starting January 1, 2026.

They join Bahrain, Colombia, and Latvia, who were also elected. The DR Congo received 183 votes, and Liberia 181 votes out of 193, reflecting broad support despite running unopposed in their regional groups.

This election strengthens African representation in global decision-making.
