Tunisia and South Africa Boost Cooperation in Health Innovation

Tunis, July 14, 2025 — Tunisian Health Minister, Mustapha Ferjani, met with South Africa’s Minister of Science and Innovation,  Bonginkosi Nzimande, to explore closer cooperation in biomedical research and manufacturing.

Talks focused on genomic medicine, mRNA vaccine production, AI in healthcare, and clinical trials. The two sides agreed to:

  • Launch joint research on priority diseases.

  • Facilitate researcher exchanges.

  • Create an African Genomic Medicine Center.

  • Form a joint task force to oversee implementation.

Minister Nzimande praised Tunisian researchers after visiting the Pasteur Institute and highlighted the need for a strong African scientific network.
