Russian FM Lavrov Urges Western States to Recognize Palestinian State Immediately

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov urged Western nations to recognize Palestine without delay, warning that in two months « there may no longer be a Palestinian entity to recognize. » Speaking in Moscow alongside Jordanian FM Ayman Safadi, Lavrov criticized European plans to wait until the UN General Assembly in September, asking, « Why not make the decision now? »

He cautioned that delayed promises could become meaningless amid Israel’s escalating actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Lavrov also called for an immediate ceasefire and urgent humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza.
