Tunisian Head of Government Meets Japanese Counterpart in Yokohama

Tunisian Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani Zenzri met with her Japanese counterpart, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, on Friday, August 22, 2025, in Yokohama, on the sidelines of the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in economic and investment cooperation. Zaafrani presented major development projects in Tunisia and encouraged greater Japanese investment, while Ishiba reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Tunisia, including in water system improvements.

Both sides welcomed progress toward a bilateral investment agreement and agreed to continue deepening economic ties. The meeting also covered regional and international issues, including the Palestinian case, where Tunisia reiterated its firm stance on Palestinian statehood and Japan expressed support for a ceasefire and humanitarian efforts.
