UK, Australia, Canada and Portugal Recognize State of Palestine

Britain, Australia, Canada, and Portugal officially recognized the State of Palestine on Sunday, joining more than 150 countries that have already done so. The move sparked strong reactions in Israel, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to respond after his return from the United States.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the recognition aimed to “revive hope for peace” and reaffirmed support for a two-state solution, while stressing that Hamas should have no role in Palestine’s future. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued similar statements, pledging support for peace and stability in the region.

According to Australia, the coordinated step reflects a broader international effort to build momentum toward a two-state solution, starting with a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.
