Tunisia, EU Discuss Migration and Partnership at UN General Assembly

On September 23, 2025, Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti met with European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The talks reaffirmed the strong Tunisia–EU partnership and explored ways to enhance cooperation ahead of the upcoming Tunisia–EU Association Council in October, which will mark the 30th anniversary of the Association Agreement.

Both sides stressed the importance of a joint approach to migration, focusing on mobility, regular migration, and a humanitarian response to irregular migration. The EU praised Tunisia’s policy of voluntary return programs for migrants, highlighting its respect for international law and human dignity.

Commissioner Brunner also expressed the EU’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the International Organization for Migration.
