The United States has revoked the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, accusing him of urging U.S. soldiers to disobey orders and calling for violence during a rally in New York.
Petro, who was in New York for the UN General Assembly, had called for a global military alliance to “liberate Palestine.” In his speech earlier in the week, he criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump, demanded an investigation into recent U.S. strikes on suspected drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean, and accused Washington of complicity in what he described as “genocide in Gaza.”
He has since returned to Bogotá, noting that he also holds Italian citizenship, which allows him to enter the U.S. without a visa.
