Discovery of a Prehistoric Archaeological Site in Chott el-Jerid

Researchers, under an international agreement between Tunisia’s National Heritage Institute and the University of Tulsa, uncovered archaeological sites and artifacts in Chott el-Jerid and Nefta during a December 2024 field mission.

The findings, including flint tools and pottery from prehistoric, early historic, and Roman periods, highlight human adaptation to desert environments and climate changes.

Extending to the Algerian border, these discoveries will enrich Tunisia’s archaeological database, offering deeper insights into the nation’s historical and cultural heritage.
