Trump Orders Military Strikes Against Yemen’s Houthi Rebels

Washington, March 16, 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered a decisive military operation against Houthi rebels in Yemen, responding to their attacks on Red Sea shipping routes. He vowed to deploy « overwhelming lethal force » until the threat is neutralized.

The announcement came after airstrikes in northern Sanaa on Saturday, which resulted in casualties and damage to residential areas, according to Al-Masirah TV. Writing on Truth Social, Trump accused the Houthis of piracy, violence, and terrorism against U.S. and international vessels, stating that American forces are targeting Houthi bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect maritime security.

For months, the U.S. has been working to weaken the Houthis, who have reportedly attacked over 100 ships using drones, missiles, and small boats, disrupting global trade since Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
